We are the pilot group for the Lung Association for the Climb in Africa. ALAW has a Climb for Clean Air every year in Washington State to climb Mt Rainier. Mar joined the climb in 2002 & summited Rainier. She made some life-long friends on this climb. In conversation the idea of climbing to the base camp at Mt Everest came up & soon after was changed to climbing the highest mountain in Africa. Sid decided to join in & Mar promised that next summer will be a golfing summer.

Kilimanjaro, fondly called Kili, is 19,340 ft tall. She makes her home on the northern border of Tanzania, almost touching the southern border of Kenya. Five different climate zones await us, from rain forest to sub & high alpine desert to the ice cap on top. Our seven to eight days on the mountain will tax our bodies as well as our lungs. We will be hiking over 50 miles and the air will have much less oxygen in it. We have been training for many months & we are all very excited for this opportunity. Keep us in your thoughts & prayers.
